Redevelopment of viale della Repubblica
The viale della Repubblica (formerly the viale dello Stabilimento Balneare or viale Vittorio Emanuele) was born as the first avenue of expansion of the city to the sea, the natural continuation of the ancient Roman decumanus, connecting with the first bathing (later called the Kursaal) built in the year 1883. It was, and still is, the main urban centre-sea axis.
The project is therefore the will of the Municipal Administration to restore the roadway to its original splendor, eliminating all architectural barriers created in the time, even food the architectural appearance to the new sea-front obtained with the recent restyling of the piazzale della Libertà and surrounding areas (2010).
The project included the repaving of sidewalks with lava stone and the installation of a new Led lighting system consisting of poles of "Escape" series by AEC-Illuminazione (designed by Federico Gessi).
The project has been nominated for THE PLAN AWARD 2015 in the category Public Space and it was presented to the international jury (composed by Christian De Portzamparc, Mario Cucinella, Odile Decq and many more) on May 20, 2015, during the conference Perspective Europe 2015/International Architecture at MiCo-Milan.
